CareerOne-Stop offers 7 User Guides that have been designed to show how competency models can be used to support workforce development efforts. The guides contain background information, resources, and recommendations. They can also be be used in conjunction with other tools found in the CareerOne-Stop Competency Model Clearinghouse.

The Office of Management and Budget has redefined the contents of many of the nation's Core-Based Statistical Areas (metropolitan, micropolitan, metro divisions and combined statistical areas) based on new commuting patterns and population data. WID GEOG and SUBGEOG tables are available for downloading that include these revisions.

The Employment and Training Administration has announced a number of additions and enhancements to its suite of electronic tools. Updates include a new Business Center, development of mobile versions of several of the tools, Spanish translations of a number of E-Tool sites and several enhancements to the CareerOneStop Certification Finder.

The Employment and Training Administration has released the second edition of their popular Guide to State and Local Workforce Data. This revision contains a variety of new data sources and updates to links and data sources from the first version. The National O*NET Center has developed a Spanish-language version of their online career exploration application, My Next Move. The application includes a variety of search methods: keyword, industry and personal interests included. The site also offers links to other Spanish content, including certifications, training programs and more.

The Census Bureau has released its 2006-2010 American Community Survey Equal Employment Opportunity Tabulation. This resource, the fifth in a series released following each decennial census since 1970, was developed at the request of four federal agencies that monitor employment practices and enforce federal civil rights laws for the workplace. It consists of 107 tables, and includes topics ranging from detailed occupation, income, educational attainment, industry, unemployment status, and citizenship. For more information, visit the Census Bureaus EEO Resources Page. Selected tables are available for downloading from the American Factfinder web site, and more will be released in 2013.

The Labor Market Information Community of Practice has added a webinar on State LMI Improvement Grants, along with guides on Understanding Layoff and Dislocated Worker Data and Data Sources for Workers with Disabilities.

The Department of Labor and fifteen other federal agencies have teamed up with FEMA to create a web resource with links to a number of recovery resources for those affected by recent natural disasters. Visitors can use the sight to apply for assistance, locate temporary shelters or housing, find local resources and check their application status. The page has news feeds for New York, Rhode Island and Connecticut residents who are feeling the impact of Hurricane Sandy and for Utah which has been hit by severe storms and flooding.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics periodically conducts surveys of businesses and individuals. But what is done with the information collected during the surveys? Why should someone participate? Who can I call if I want more information about the survey? You may receive questions like these - and now BLS has come up with a helpful website that you can use to answer these questions - it is the BLS Survey Respondent webpage, and it gives general information about the surveys conducted by BLS, as well as links to survey specific pages.

BLS recently premiered a new publication called Beyond the Numbers. This publication will serve as a source of timely, interesting analysis of BLS data and trends. Beyond the Numbers brings together the analyses previously found in Issues in Labor Statistics, Focus on Prices and Spending, Program Perspectives, Regional Reports, and OES Highlights. The first article in Beyond the Numbers, "International air passenger fares shrug off the recession," discusses how the price of international airfare changed during and after the recent global recession. The second article, "How new fees are affecting the Producer Price Index for air travel," examines how the introduction of baggage and cancellation fees affects the price of domestic airfare.

The U.S. Department of Labor recently announced a new online tool that will allow current and prospective health care workers to explore more than 80 different occupations, identify local education and training programs, and tap into current job listings. Through the Virtual Career Network, users also can learn how previous experience such as military or on-the-job training can be applied toward a health care career, take free online courses and find sources of financial aid.
